Scone - Tea

You might have seen a previous post of ours about the benefits of drinking tea.  Most people love a good cup of tea. It not only warms your hands and insides on a cold, brisk day, but is also a relaxing, soothing way to wind down in the evening.

There are many benefits to drinking tea, as they are sourced from all natural ingredients. Read on to find out how.

Drink up for your skin!

When you settle down into retirement, part of the process of ageing is the slowing down of collagen and elastin production in your skin, leading to the possibility of more wrinkles and fine lines, as well as sagging skin. It’s a natural process, but thankfully, can be slowed down or even prevented to a degree with a good skin care routine and healthy lifestyle filled with antioxidants.

Around us, in our environment, are what we call free radicals. These harm our health and skin, and can be more prominent in certain environmental factors such as exposure from the sun. It’s these free radicals that cause damage to our skin, leading to the signs we see as ageing. While we can’t reverse all the signs of ageing, the best we can do is to enlist the use of antioxidants to slow down the action of free radicals.

You’ll find that tea contains a whole array of antioxidants, which all work together to help boost your health and hydrate your skin.

Green tea

A standard tea found throughout Asia, green tea contains a strong antioxidant called catechins. A study published in the American Journal of Nutrition finds that these catechins may actually help to reduce body fat. This is, of course, not a magical fat-burning drink as a healthy lifestyle is still very important, but it could prevent certain debilitating health conditions such as obesity.

Many sources claim that these fat-reducing qualities could be attributed to the fact that green tea substitutes in the place of a sugary drink that someone may consume in its place. Whatever the reason, it definitely doesn’t hurt to opt for green tea over other drinks.

WebMD reports that green tea can also promote blood flow and lower your cholesterol levels, reducing your chances of cardiovascular diseases.

Rooibos tea

This South African tea is commonly called “red bush” tea and contains a vast range of minerals and nutrients which can help make your retirement living as comfortable as possible.

The most common minerals include calcium, flouride, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium and zinc. These all help with bone health and liver function specifically, as well as has anti-inflammatory problems. It’s also great to drink just before bedtime as it’s caffeine free.

Next time you settle down with a good book, make sure there’s a cup of tea in your other hand. It may work wonders on your body as you relax!
